Red Bank, NJ is home to a historic music scene, known for producing Count Basie and others. But many local families today face challenges. More than 20 percent of the city's children live below the poverty line.
Play It Forward operates free afterschool music classes for middle school children in Red Bank.
The classes are taught by music majors at Red Bank Regional High School's Visual & Performing Arts Academy.
Piano classes are held weekly at the historic Woman's Club in downtown Red Bank.
Vocal classes are held weekly at the Red Bank Middle School.
All classes are organized with the support and partnership of Red Bank Regional High School, Red Bank Middle School, the Red Bank Woman's Club, and Project Write Now, a community outreach program for underserved groups.
